The Raleigh Arts Festival – Artsplosure, is a great way, no, it’s the only way to kick off spring. Raleigh becomes filled with various artist and musicians along with food and fun for the entire family. It’s a way to experience what art in the Triangle is truly like. For more than twenty years Artsplosure has provide exposure to thousands of both established and emerging artist to the hundreds of thousands, who visit Artsplosure annually.
Organized in 1978 by the Raleigh Arts Commission, Artsplosure never fails to disappoint from its inception in 1980 to now. 2017 was filled with more than 170 visual arts and crafts exhibitors from across North Carolina and the nation with performances from both national and regional musicians covering every genre from jazz, blues and alternative music.
This three-day event is one you do not want to miss and this year you could catch performances by Phil Cook and the Guitarheels, Lady Jags, Rise Rashid, William Bell,High and Mighty Brass Band, Ed Stephenson and the Paco Band, the Harris Brothers, Dave Gunning, Enloe Jazz Big Band, Seratones, the Commonheart, Tank and the Bangas, Violet Bell, and the Fountain Singers.
Art is more than just paint; its form of art is also displayed in works with ceramics, fiber art, glass, jewelry, metal, photography, wood and so much more. See such artiest as Liz Kelley of Liz Kelly Potter, Luis Enrique Gutierrez of NICA Ceramic Art, Valerie Hawkins of Organically Thrown display their ceramic works of art. See beautiful arts made of glass from Melanie Stoer of Melsie Glass, Michele Blank, A work of Art Glass Studio and many others. Purchase skillfully crafted jewelary from locals Cheryl Foiles Designs, Cindy Snowof CinTinque Handcrafted Jewelry and Anabella Zagura just to name a few.
Art changes with the time and Artsplosure captures 3D art from such artist as Bill Hickman, Anne McLean, DShawn Russell and Dahr Tanoury, to name a few. You can see there is something for everyone including the kids.
Kidsplosure captivated the young and young at heart with performances by the Enloe Jazz Ambassadors, Michelle’s Magical Poodles, One Tribe Drumming, Lucy Daly, Southeast Raleigh Jazz Band, Sanderson Step Team, and Jeghetto’s Puppets, just to name a few. Kids were able to participate in activities by Delightful Dashing Hats, Spring community weaving, Radical Radiant Mobiles and Spirited Splendid Suncatchers.
